2. Tom Brady

By any quarterback metric, Tom Brady is having one of the worst seasons of his career. As it stands now, his completion percentage is 61.1%, his quarterback rating is 88.2, and he’s on pace to throw just 24 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

If these numbers hold, it would be the fourth-lowest completion percentage, the sixth-worst quarterback rating, and the third-fewest touchdown passes thrown in a season during Brady’s illustrious 20-year career (throwing out the stats from the 2008 season he missed).

So why does he deserve a spot on our list of MVPs at the three-quarter mark of the season?

Well, for one, there aren’t a whole lot of other options.

Phillip Dorsett had previously made this list twice, but his play has fallen off significantly since his hot start to the season. Dorsett was seen most recently sitting on the sideline looking crestfallen and getting an angry earful from Brady after he failed to run the proper route.

James White also made this list after the first quarter of the season, but he pretty much disappeared from the New England offense until his reemergence in Week 13 against the Texans. Maybe if he can build on some of the momentum from last Sunday night and carry it through the final four games of the season, he’ll earn a spot on our final list of offensive MVPs before the playoffs begin.

Who else is there really (besides our No. 1 choice below)? The offensive line has been a jumbled mess most of the season outside of Thuney, the running backs have been pitiful, the tight ends have been MIA, and the wide receivers… well, just ask Brady how the receivers have played these past four games.

Tom Terrific certainly hasn’t been blameless this year in all the offense’s struggles, and he has the stat-line to show for it. But given all the turnover, injuries, and ineffectiveness surrounding him in 2019, he remains one of the few bright spots and sources of hope that the Patriots can still turn around their season offensively in time.
