1st Down: Can Isaiah Wynn be the answer on offense?

The New England Patriots offense has been very inconsistent all season long. Despite having moments that some can say “the offense is back,” there have been more moments where it gets really tough to watch this offense go to work. They can’t get their running game going (which was a strength last season) and there aren’t enough reliable weapons for Tom Brady to perform at a high level like he has in years past.

There could be a variety of reasons as to why the offense is shockingly a weakness of this team, but one factor could very well be the offensive line. The Patriots lost two key members of the line last offseason (Trent Brown to free agency and David Andrews to season-ending injury), and the offense hasn’t looked the same ever since.

All season the Patriots have been shuffling linemen in and out of the starting-five, and different combinations haven’t seemed to work. Brady is getting beat up in the backfield, Sony Michel is averaging three yards per carry, and the Patriots are struggling to put points on the board.

As the season comes to an end in the next five weeks, can this offense be fixed? And if it can, will one of the key factors be the return of left tackle Isaiah Wynn? The second-year lineman was recently activated off IR after missing all but the first game-and-a-half of the season.

Wynn also missed the entire 2018 season with an Achilles injury. He is a solid lineman and is very capable of protecting Tom Brady’s blindside as well as helping a great deal in the running game. The coaches are excited for Wynn’s return, and the fans should be as well.
