4th Down: Is a lot of rest actually too much rest?

The New England Patriots had 11 days off between the New York Giants game in Week 6 and last night’s Week 7 contest against the New York Jets. It was good thing that the schedule worked out the way it did, because a few members of the team were battling injuries and needed extra time to get healthy.

Sometimes though, too much rest could actually be a momentum killer for a team that was rolling like New England. However, that was not the case Monday night, as the New England Patriots offense marched down the field to score a touchdown and start this game off red-hot.

The last few weeks, this was not the case always, as the offense really struggled to move the ball at times versus these same Jets, the Giants, the Bills, and even during the first half of the Redskins game. The offense flowed throughout this game, however, despite a turnover and a handful of three-and-outs.

Next. Pats have help coming in N'Keal Harry, Ben Watson, etc. dark

With the bye week looming for the New England Patriots in Week 10, this 11-day “mini bye week” between games really helped this team. Hopefully, New England will soon get most of its injured players back… a list that includes key contributors like Josh Gordon, Rex Burkhead, Patrick Chung, Ryan Izzo, and Matt LaCosse. The Patriots also should soon see the return of N’Keal Harry, and they could be in line to re-activate Isaiah Wynn after their bye as well to reinforce the offensive line.
