2nd Down: Is it time to use James White more?

James White has been used sparingly so far this season, as the offense has attempted to default back to their power run offensive identity from last season. Unfortunately, it has not been too successful thus far in the season, so heading into this week I wondered if it might be time to incorporate White more as a focal point of the offense.

Someone must have read my preview, because White caught seven passes for 59 yards, and his longest reception went for 22 yards. He was targeted eight times on the evening. The receptions and receiving yards were both game-highs for New England.

White also ran the ball five times but could only amass zero yards with those carries. Obviously more of a threat in the receiving game than he is as a runner, it still represented a positive development to see White earn 12 touches overall.

This could be a good sign for White and the Patriots offense as they move on in the season.
