The New England Patriots hit the road to face the Washington Redskins in Week 5 of the season. Here’s all the information you need to watch the game.

On paper, this game represents one of the biggest mismatches of the season for the New England Patriots. Whereas the Patriots are 4-0 and riding high after three consecutive wins over each of their divisional rivals, the Washington Redskins are 0-4 after dropping all three of the games against their NFC East brethren.

Indeed, these are two franchises seemingly headed in very different directions… hence the massive point spread. New England is a 15.5 point road favorite – a line that actually came slightly down from 16, which is how this spread first opened. The ‘Skins are the biggest home underdogs in franchise history because of that spread, according to CBS Sports’ John Breech.

Part of the reason why the Pats are such heavy favorites is because of their astounding defensive play through the first quarter of the season.

New England is first in the NFL (by a hefty margin) in both points allowed and yards allowed… and they’ve only allowed one touchdown all season, last week against the Buffalo Bills in the third quarter. The Patriots defense also leads the league in sacks and interceptions this season, so it could be a very long day for whomever ends up playing quarterback for the Redskins.

That starter was Case Keenum the first three weeks of the season, until rookie first-round draft pick Dwayne Haskins Jr. was inserted mid-game last week against fellow first-round rookie QB Daniel Jones. Washington head coach Jay Gruden indicated Friday that Colt McCoy would start for his team today though; McCoy suffered a season-ending broken leg last December, and hasn’t played in a meaningful game since then.

Statistically-speaking, this game could get very ugly very fast.

While New England has struggled to establish their ground game in 2019, that could change in a hurry versus Washington’s fourth-ranked rushing defense. It’s a safe bet that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels might try and use the Redskins’ soft run D as an antidote to cure starting halfback Sony Michel’s sophomore slump.

Through the air, Pats QB Tom Brady will seek to rebound from one of the worst starts of his sparkling 20-year career. While Brady played poorly against a ferocious Bills defense on the road last week, he should have a much easier time dissecting Washington’s undermanned unit on the road this week.

Defensively, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see several New England Patriots pad their gaudy individual stat lines today. Jamie Collins Sr., Kyle Van Noy, J.C. Jackson, Devin McCourty… each could have multiple opportunities over a full four quarters of play to build their running totals of tackles, sacks, forced fumbles, or interceptions before the final whistle sounds.
