4th Down: Limit special teams blunders

The New England Patriots’ special teams is the only grey area in a dominant start to the 2019 season.

Stephen Gostkowski has been the most notable member of the special teams squad to have a slow start to the season. He’s missed a total of four kicks this season (three field goals and one extra point). Adding more gas on the fire, rookie return man Gunner Olszewski muffed a punt last week that led to a special teams touchdown for the Jets.

In the long run, these simple mistakes – like a missed extra point or a muffed point in the end zone – could end the New England Patriots season sometime down the road. The time is now to start fixing the little mistakes and avoiding these mishaps altogether, before they cost the team in a major way when it counts at some point in the future.
