2nd Down: Get Sony Michel going

In his rookie year, Sony Michel was a solid addition to the New England Patriots offense. A reinvention of that offense to a power running attack led the Patriots to the Super Bowl and a victory in the big game.

The same can’t be said for this season. The New England Patriots offense has been one-dimensional, passing the ball well but achieving little to no success getting any yardage on the ground.

Michel has rushed for 108 yards and only two touchdowns through three games. Against Pittsburgh he only rushed for 14 yards on 15 attempts. Meanwhile against Miami, there were glimpses of the Michel from last season, as he rushed for 83 yards that day… but then struggled last week against the Jets, rushing for only 11 yards.

Going back to the previous point, if Edelman is out or very limited in production, Sony Michel has to step up for the New England Patriots offense. If he does finally start to right the ship, it will be against an eighth-ranked rush defense in the Bills.
