1st Down: Who will step up if Edelman can’t go?

Julian Edelman left last week’s game against the New York Jets with a chest injury and has been limited in practice all week. He is listed as questionable for Sunday, though he did make the trip with his teammates to Buffalo.

If Edelman can’t go, who will step up in his place?

Josh Gordon is the likely candidate to be Tom Brady’s No. 1 target, but Phillip Dorsett has also emerged as a top receiver in the Patriots offense. In his three games this season, Dorsett has caught 13 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns (which leads the team).

Running back James White will be returning to the field this week after celebrating the birth of his son last Sunday, so he could be a major factor as well. White is always a threat in the passing game for Brady and company.

Rex Burkhead has also emerged as a double threat in the New England Patriots offense, both running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield… though he’s also questionable for the game with a foot injury.

There is no telling if Edelman will be dressed on Sunday as he will most likely be a game-time decision. If he does in fact dress and hits the field, how effective can he be?
