Even though Rob Gronkowski has retired from the NFL, he’s still carving out time to work out with ex-Patriots teammate Tom Brady.

In case there are still mopey New England Patriots fans out there wishing the team would get the whole band back together in 2019 – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t feel that way? – there was reportedly a sweet, if somewhat bitterly nostalgic, sight to be seen at UCLA’s campus on Monday.

According to sources cited by MassLive’s Andrew Callahan, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski were spotted playing catch in Westwood during a private workout. Gronkowski was in Los Angeles for the Monster Energy $50K Charity Challenge Celebrity Basketball Game, an event he also participated in last year alongside a number of other athletes, musicians, and actors. Brady was also in the area because he regularly spends portions of the offseason working with trainer Alex Guerrero along many of Southern California’s sunny, sandy beaches.

With Gronkowski already set to play basketball in the charity event at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion later that evening – and with Brady recently having worked out with collegiate receivers from the Bruins’ football team on May 1 – it must have made sense for the two former teammates (and close friends) to link up on campus once again.

Even in retirement, Gronk continues to find himself at the forefront of stories surrounding the Patriots’ offseason. Ever since he announced his intentions last March to walk away from professional football after nine seasons playing in the NFL, Gronkowski has been peppered with questions from reporters everywhere he goes, and the subject matter is always the same: would he consider a return to New England if Brady or Bill Belichick came calling?

So far, the lovable tight end has staunchly refuted any rumors of a comeback, repeating over and over again that he’s enjoying the rest and relaxation of a life post-football so far.
