Tom Brady wants Lil Nas X for Patriots’ season opener
Impressed by the musician’s performance at the Bruins’ Stanley Cup pregame party, Tom Brady invited Lil Nas X to perform at the Patriots’ season opener.
As young musician Lil Nas X continues to his meteoric rise to fame and fortune, count Patriots quarterback Tom Brady among those listening… and impressed thus far.
The rapper/singer/songwriter out of Atlanta, Georgia, just celebrated his 20th birthday last month, and yet he’s already been featured atop the Billboard 100 list for popular music for over seven weeks now. His breakout single “Old Town Road,” along with the remix that features country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, have launched Lil Nas X into becoming a household name seemingly overnight.
The track is catchy and popular – and controversial – for its smooth blend of rap/hip hop and country… two genres that rarely find themselves combined so seamlessly and successfully. And yet part of Lil Nas X’s instant success has come from his ability to do just that: merge the two most popular genres of music in America today.
He’s already well-known enough to have merited an invite to the Boston Bruins’ pregame party ahead of Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Final series versus the St. Louis Blues. The Bruins came from behind to defeat the Blues 4-2 in Boston on Memorial Day, and the crowd that gathered ahead of the game at TD Garden came in large part to see Lil Nas X perform live.
Just a day later, Brady took to Twitter to invite the musician to perform at the Patriots’ season opener in September, alongside video footage of the concert outside the Garden.
Lil Nas X responded just four hours later, and he sounded enthusiastic about the idea to say the least:
Whether or not Brady actually has the power to decide who will perform at New England’s season opener on September 8 is unclear. Although given the popularity of Lil Nas X and the power of Brady himself when it comes to the Boston sports scene, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to hear “the horses in the back” have come to Gillette Stadium.
