A day after Tom Brady tweeted his support for “Jeopardy James” by wagering eating a strawberry, the gameshow contestant responded to up the ante.

Tom Brady is having a lot of fun with this whole Twitter thing.

The social media giant first launched back in 2006, but the Patriots quarterback didn’t see the need for an account of his own until just two months ago, a whole 13 years later. Since joining the hundreds of millions who frequent the website every day, Brady has largely used it for recreational purposes: an April Fools’ Day prank here, some tongue-in-cheek NFL Draft advice there.

On Monday, he made headlines again for his digital digressions, claiming he’d eat a strawberry on Instagram Live if James Holzhauer lost on the gameshow “Jeopardy” that night. Holzhauer, nicknamed “Jeopardy James,” is of course making some headlines of his own these days as he racks up millions of dollars en route to becoming the winningest contestant ever on the long-running show.

So confident was Brady in Jeopardy James that he publicly wagered over eating the dreaded fruit, which he professes to be an “inflammatory food” that isn’t good for the body. Most nutritionists don’t agree, but TB12 sticks to his guns when it comes to his unconventional dietary habits and nutritional practices.

Ultimately all that mattered was that while the stakes of eating a strawberry on camera might not sound that crazy to you or I, to Brady, it’s tantamount to spooning down cinnamon or swallowing a whole handful of spicy chili peppers.

Thankfully for the 41-year-old signal-caller, Jeopardy James delivered, meaning Brady can stay strawberry-free for at least another day. Less than 24 hours after his victory, too, Holzhauer must have caught wind of the Brady story – because he tweeted a hilarious reaction to it:

Holzhauer knows his audience at least: tomatoes, like strawberries and eggplant, are big “no-no” foods for the Patriots QB. As of Wednesday evening though, Brady had yet to take the bait… and Holzhauer acknowledged as much in a separate tweet:

Jeopardy James even got in a little fun with a fellow Twitter user who brought up Brady’s role in the Deflategate scandal while he was at it:

If there’s anything we know about Brady, though, it’s that he doesn’t want to talk about scandals, cheating, or basically anything that’s uncomfortable or that could be used against him or the Patriots. No wonder the online back-and-forth ended where it did, then.

Brady and Holzhauer are clearly kindred spirits though, as they both know how to do one thing better than just about everyone else, and that’s win. Whether it’s at football or at trivia, these are two proven champions at the top of their respective disciplines… and it’s a pleasure to watch both do what they do best.
