Tom Brady has long been loved and supported by Chris Evans, the actor behind Captain America, but that could change soon because of President Donald Trump.

Tom Brady may be on Cloud Nine after winning his record-shattering sixth Super Bowl championship. Unfortunately, there’s at least one famous New England Patriots superfan out there who knows a thing or two about shattering records himself – and he’s reportedly not very happy with Brady these days.

Chris Evans, Hollywood film star and the man behind Captain America’s iconic star-studded cowl, has been an outspoken supporter of Brady and the Patriots for most of his life. A Boston native, Evans is right up there with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and John Krasinski as some of the Patriots’ biggest celebrity backers.

But unless Brady has reconsidered some of his past ties and preferences for President Donald Trump, Evans believes it might be time to “cut ties.” Asked in a recent interview with “The Hollywood Reporter” if he would ever consider playing Brady in a future biopic, he hesitated and expressed some clear indecision and frustration on the topic.

"“I don’t know,” Evans said. “I really hope he’s not a Trump supporter. I’m just hoping he’s one of those guys that maybe supported him and now regrets it. Maybe he thought it was going to be different — and even that bothers me — but maybe there’s a chance now he just thinks Trump’s an absolute dumb s—, which he is. If he doesn’t, if he’s still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties. It’s really tough. I think maybe a couple of years ago, I might have tried to pull some, like, mental gymnastics to compartmentalize, but I don’t know if I can anymore. So I’m just hoping he’s woken up.”"

As outspoken of a Boston sports fan as Evans is, he’s also a prominent Democrat and liberal within the Hollywood community. And while most Hollywood actors and celebrities tend to lean left, Evans didn’t mince words or pull any punches when talking about the POTUS, calling him an “absolute dumb (expletive).”

This whole fissure began with Brady and his more liberal-leaning supporters when a red “Make America Great Again” Trump campaign hat was discovered in the background of the Patriots quarterback’s locker during a media interview. At the time, Brady acknowledged his pre-existing friendship with Trump, though he declined to get into details over how he came by the hat or what his political beliefs were.

New England owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick have also previously expressed public support and even admiration of Trump, with Belichick going so far as to send a letter of commendation to Trump that the President read aloud from at a rally.

Whether or not a biopic of Brady is ever made is uncertain; after all, the man could still be slinging an NFL football twenty years from now at the rate he’s going. But it’s safe to assume that if Brady does indeed still consider Trump a friend and considers himself a supporter of his policies, he may have lost Chris Evans/Steve Rogers/Captain America in the process.
