Malcom Brown

Position: Defensive Tackle

Overview: Brown was a first-round draft pick of the Patriots back in 2015 who has yet to fulfill his potential. The Patriots never got the dominating two-gap presence they expected when they selected him, as Brown was largely overshadowed by Alan Branch initially and now the emerging Lawrence Guy.

The Patriots did not pick up the fifth-year option on Brown after a disappointing 2017 season, and it looks a wise move by the team now. Brown was reduced to a part-time role player in 2018, and continued a fourth straight season without any indication of being able to rush the quarterback.

His value in the run game should be enough to give him a fresh start elsewhere, but it would be a surprise to see him cash in anywhere he ends up in 2019.

Expected Cost: Two years at $5 million per season, some incentives, and the first year guaranteed only.
