John Simon

Position: Defensive End/OLB

Overview: Simon came to New England with little fanfare this past season after getting released by the Indianapolis Colts. Added to the pass rush platoon, Simon was a solid rotational player at defensive end. He was steady against the run and added a little pass rush at times, while also playing on special teams as well.

As an inexpensive pick-up, Simon likely would be available at a low cost unless some opponent fell in love with his play during the playoffs. Especially with the sudden loss of Trey Flowers, the Patriots may want to keep some extra depth at the position. Simon was a good fit in the locker room and on the field in 2018, and should come back if he can come to terms with the team on a mutually-beneficial new contract.

UPDATE: As of Wednesday, Simon has reportedly agreed to return to the Patriots in 2019.

Expected Cost: 2 years at $2 to $2.5 million per season
