Rookie running back Sony Michel has been a revelation for the Patriots since the team selected him No. 31 overall in last April’s draft. Behind his powerful, bruising style of racking up tough yards between the tackles (and his better-than-advertised vision and cutting ability), offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has morphed his attack and changed the very identity of the Patriots’ scoring machine.

No longer is this an air-it-out team that relies on Brady to bail them out of 3rd-and-forevers with laser pinpoint throws to Edelman, Chris Hogan, or Rob Gronkowski. In fact, the Patriots rarely find themselves outside of manageable second and third down situations these days, thanks largely to Michel chewing up so much yardage on early downs and driving the offense forever forward.

Of all the Patriots that have been given Super Bowl MVP odds by Las Vegas bookmakers, Michel actually comes in with the second-best odds at +1800. That’s just behind Brady, Goff, and Rams superstar running back Todd Gurley (+1600) for the best odds overall from both of the teams’ rosters.

It’s not a surprise whatsoever – Michel just broke the NFL record for most playoff rushing touchdowns by a rookie (5) in wins over Kansas City and Los Angeles. Evidently, the sky’s the limit for the impressive young 23-year-old out of Georgia.
