Pat Patriot, beloved mascot in New England, was Public Enemy No. 1 for Jets safety Jamal Adams and hundreds of Pro Bowl fans in attendance at practice.

The New York Jets finally enacted some measure of revenge against their division nemesis.

Never mind that the New England Patriots are miles and miles away, practicing for their fourth Super Bowl trip in the last five years.

Forget that the Patriots are one win away from claiming their sixth Lombardi Trophy, which would tie them with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most championships all time in the NFL.

And who cares if Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are attempting to take a legacy that’s already been cemented as G.O.A.T.s and gild it in solid gold now with a win over the Los Angeles Rams.

None of that mattered on Wednesday afternoon… at least not to Jets safety Jamal Adams, or to the numerous fans in attendance at the NFL’s Pro Bowl practice. Because around those parts and to all those people, the New England Patriots, their players, their coaches, and yes – even their mascot – all represent one thing, and one thing only: pure evil.

After hours and hours of watching and listening to New England’s mascot, Pat Patriot, get mercilessly and soundly booed by fans of the other 31 NFL teams, Jamal Adams decided to finally do something about the situation. Taking matters into his own hands, he abruptly finished signing an autograph so he could set his sights on the poor mascot, take off, and bury him with a vicious surprise tackle.

Sure, sure. It’s all fun and games to beat up a guy in a plush caricature suit. Of course, New York’s players have had few chances over the years to get their knocks on any of New England’s players, so it stands to reason they’d take out some of that frustration on a hapless mascot.

Unsurprisingly, the first people to congratulate Adams on his launch attack were all sworn enemies of Patriots Nation. They included Jaxson de Ville, fellow mascot and representative of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team the Patriots beat in the AFC Championship Game last year. And among the non-fictitious were Pittsburgh Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Denver Broncos defenders Von Miller and Chris Harris Jr… all members of rival AFC teams the Patriots have done regular battle with over the past decade.

All jokes aside, it was nice to see Adams and the other players and mascots having some fun for the sake of themselves and the fans in attendance. America’s hatred and fatigue concerning the Patriots is well-documented, so if New England’s mascot needed to play the sacrificial lamb on Wednesday to appease the masses, so be it.

Most Pats fans probably don’t mind too much; after all, they’ve got bigger fish to fry in a little over a week and a half.
