New England Patriots: Eye on the AFC East — Buffalo Bills
By Hal Bent
COACHING:
Sean McDermott came from Carolina, where he was defensive coordinator for Ron Rivera. Before that, he came up in Andy Reid’s Philadelphia coaching staff under Jim Johnson. He is hard-nosed, aggressive, and a great fit for the blue-collar upstate New York area and their passionate football fans.
General manager Brandon Beane also comes from the Panthers, so there are similarities on the type of players brought in on both sides of the ball, with the two men calling the shots often seeing eye-to-eye in talent evaluation.
Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is one of the best in the business, and deserves another shot as head coach after his tenure in Minnesota flamed out.
Daboll spent seven years in New England before moving to New York and coordinating in Cleveland, Miami, and Kansas City. He came back to New England for a pair of Super Bowl rings before becoming offensive coordinator for Alabama in 2017. This year he chose to join the Bills; his grade is inconclusive so far, due to the lack of playmakers he had at his disposal this season.
