COACHING:

The most important hiring for the New York Jets is finding the right fit for their young quarterback. Jeremy Bates was definitely not the answer as offensive coordinator this season, just as John Morton was a poor choice the season prior. Chan Gailey had the pedigree and worked his magic in 2015 with a veteran squad, but the bloom was off the rose by 2016.

The Jets have interviewed former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase. They are expected to also interview Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and possibly former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell.

In the college ranks, the Jets have reportedly also reached out to Matt Rhule of Baylor.

With a young, dynamic quarterback in Darnold to build around, the New York Jets could (should?) pair him with a young, exciting offensive mind.
