New England Patriots: Lack of running game will hurt Vikings in Week 13
By Nick Ziegler
In Week 13, the Minnesota Vikings will be facing the New England Patriots hoping to pull an upset. Do they have the recipe for success?
One of the best games in Week 13 will be the matchup between the New England Patriots and the Minnesota Vikings. As two potential playoff teams, this will be a game that many fans will have an eye on.
After a big win against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, the Vikings will be looking for another big win, this time on the road. At 6-4-1, the Vikings might not have had the season that they were hoping for up to this point, but they are still very much in the playoff picture in the NFC.
This week, the Vikings will be playing one of their hardest games of the season on the road against the Patriots. While the Patriots might have had some struggles on the road so far this season, they have been very good at home. So far, New England has not dropped a game at home, and that includes wins over the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.
The Patriots are certainly hoping that the Chiefs slip up before the end of the season, as they would like to avoid playing in Kansas City in the playoffs. While they do need some help to get that, they first must handle their business.
Minnesota will be coming to New England with a very good defense and a strong passing attack. Like last season, the Vikings have one of the best defenses in the league, and they certainly have the potential to cause some problems for the Patriots. However, on the offensive side of the ball, they are very one-dimensional.
So far this season, the Vikings have yet to reach 1,000 rushing yards as a team, as they are one of the three teams in NFL to have not reached that mark. Part of the reason why the Vikings have struggled to run the football overall this season is because of Dalvin Cook missing time. However, in six games this season, Cook has yet to reach 100 yards rushing in a game.
When playing the Patriots, the recipe for success is to usually run the football well and get pressure on Brady. While the Vikings defense can cause problems for the Patriots, the Vikings don’t have the running game to pull the upset off in New England.
