With his return to the New England Patriots set for Week 13, Rex Burkhead is excited to be back.

The New England Patriots will be getting another talented player back in Week 13 as the team continues to get healthy. While the Patriots have an impressive 8-3 record, wins are still very important with the Kansas City Chiefs playing so well in the AFC Playoff picture.

One of the players that the Patriots have been without is running back, Rex Burkhead. In Week 3 against the Detroit Lions, Burkhead suffered a neck injury and was placed on injured reserve. At the time, this was a notable injury for the Patriots, as Burkhead was projected to be a big part of the offense.

Despite being placed on injured reserve, it is good to see Burkhead back for the Patriots. Usually, being placed on injured reserve results in the season being over, however. Burkhead has worked hard and will be back in action. Recently, Burkhead spoke with Zack Cox of NESN.com about his return and health. Here’s what he had to say.

"“It feels great,” Burkhead said in his first remarks to the New England media since September. “I’m looking forward to being back here on the field on Sunday and just being back out here with the team, practicing again and being around the guys. The past few weeks, it’s been different. It’s been weird not being around everything, so it just feels good.”"

Getting a fresh Burkhead back will be a great luxury for the Patriots at this point in the season. While James White and Sony Michel have both played well this season, Burkhead was posied to be a big part of the offense at the beginning of the season.

In 2017, Burkhead played a big role in the offense, as he totaled over 500 total yards. As the season went on last year, Burkhead emerged as a big weapon in the red zone, as he totaled eight touchdowns.

Getting a player like Burkhead back will provide the Patriots with another running back that can contribute in both the running and passing attack. At this point in the season, getting some fresh legs to help get White some rest before the playoffs could be very beneficial. With the Vikings coming to town on Sunday, seeing how involved Burkhead is in the offense will be an interesting thing to monitor.
