New England Patriots are very aware of road struggles
By Nick Ziegler
The New England Patriots are well aware of their struggles on the road, as they have lost three games away from home already this season.
While the New England Patriots have a very nice 7-3 record heading into their bye week, the season hasn’t been perfect. After a slow start to the season, New England was able to rip off six straight wins heading into Tennessee.
Even though the Titans were coming off a nice win against the Dallas Cowboys, the Patriots were still a decent favorite on the road. However, the Patriots have not performed well on the road this season, and they lost their third road game of the season to the Titans.
Recently, Devin McCourty spoke with Zack Cox of NESN.com about the Patriots’ struggles on the road. Here’s what he had to say.
"“But I think we’ve just got to do a better job of weathering the storm, whether it be at home or away. It’s shown up away. It hasn’t really shown up that much at home because we’ve gotten off to good starts. But I think we have to do a better job of just weathering the storm and giving ourselves a chance to bring energy and get going instead of just letting it snowball.”"
The poor showings on the road are certainly concerning for the Patriots. While they have wins against the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Green Bay Packers at home, they have losses to the Detriot Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Titans on the road.
Compared to recent years, the Patriots have been a huge disappointment on the road this season. The past few years, New England has been one of the top teams in the NFL playing away from home. However, that is not the case this season.
On both sides of the ball, New England seems to get off to slow starts on the road, which is not a recipe for winning football games. Now that the Patriots don’t have the inside track to home-field advantage this season, they very well could have to go to Kansas City in a playoff game.
Considering their struggles on the road so far this season, the Patriots have to be nervous about a potential road playoff game. With the team now on a bye week, addressing some of these road woes has to be a priority.
