Recent New England Patriots rumors involve running back Sony Michel, who will reportedly return this week barring a setback.

There have been a bunch of New England Patriots rumors recently with all of the injuries occurring on the team. The offense has been hit especially hard.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski has missed two of the last three games because of injury. The running back position has been hit hard as well throughout the season. Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill and Sony Michel have all spent time on the sidelines.

Burkhead is on the IR with a chance to return, while Hill was placed on season-ending IR with an ACL tear. Michel looked like he would be heading to the IR as well.

Michel suffered a gruesome-looking knee injury against the Chicago Bears in Week 8. Michel was in visible pain, as he fumbled the ball because of the hit.

It looked like the Patriots were going to lose their other first round pick. Isaiah Wynn, who was also selected in the first round in 2018 along with Michel, is out for the season as well. While it looked bad, Michel got extremely lucky.

There was no serious damage in the knee, and Michel has been week-to-week since. Well, that time on the sidelines looks like he could be coming to an end.

According to Adam Schefter, Michel is expected to suit up this upcoming week in a playoff rematch with the Tennessee Titans. To get back on the field, Michel just needs to have a good week of practice without any setbacks.

This is good news for the Patriots. In his absence, New England has been using wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson as their lead running back. Patterson did well against the Green Bay Packers after struggling against the Buffalo Bills.

Kenjon Barner received 10 carries against the Bears but has received only three in the two following games. James White has been great, but the Patriots are hesitant to make him the featured back and running him into the ground, given his role in the passing game.

Michel was really coming on prior to the knee injury. He had surpassed 100 yards in two of the previous three games, scoring four touchdowns in that span of time as well.

Getting Michel back in the lineup will help the Patriots balance out their offense. The Patriots are at their best when they have the threat of a run game, which they haven’t truly had in the past two weeks despite winning both games.

Michel has struggled to stay healthy thus far during his NFL career. He missed the season opener as well.

Having him back in the lineup will be good, but knowing you have guys that can step up behind him if there is a setback is good to know.
