Patriots Rumors: New England interested in Patrick Peterson
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Patriots rumors are that the team is interested in cornerback, Patrick Peterson.
With the NFL Trade Deadline just a week, recent Patriots rumors have been about who the team might be interested in acquiring before the deadline.
After a slow start to the season, the Patriots have been playing much better football of late. With four straight wins, the Patriots are now 5-2 and once again looking like one of the top teams in the AFC.
New England has already been active on the trade market this season, as they acquired Josh Gordon from the Cleveland Browns. With the offense struggling, the Patriots felt like Gordon would be a good addition to help strengthen the wide receiver corps. After his first 100-yard game against the Chicago Bears, it looks like Gordon is already becoming more comfortable in the offense.
While the offense looks like it is on the right track, the defense has been giving up a lot of points this season. According to Bryant McFadden, the Patriots are interested in Arizona Cardinals cornerback, Patrick Peterson.
As one of the top cornerbacks in the game, Peterson would help any team that acquired him, as he is a shutdown corner. For the Patriots, finding someone steady to play opposite of Stephon Gilmore has been a problem for them, and is also one of the reasons why they lost the Super Bowl last season.
While Peterson might want out of Arizona, the Cardinals don’t appear like they want to move one of the best cornerbacks in the league. However, a good offer with Peterson’s desire to leave the rebuilding Cardinals could get a deal done.
Cornerback might not be the most pressing need on the defense for the Patriots, but adding a player the caliber of Peterson would instantly improve the unit as a whole. Having two lockdown cornerbacks would allow the Patriots to bring some more blitzes without putting players in poor situations.
With about a week to go, we will have to wait and see if the Patriots do indeed try to trade for Peterson or someone else to improve the team.
