The New England Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts 38-24 in Week 5 Thursday Night at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots now to 3-2 in the 2018 NFL season.

On Thursday night, the 2-2 New England Patriots welcomed the 1-3 Indianapolis Colts to Foxboro for a primetime showdown. This was a pretty emotional game from the standpoint of the Patriots and their fans because Julian Edelman made his return after a 4 game PED suspension.

This was the first game he has played that had importance to it (excluding preseason) since his heroics in Super Bowl LI. He was received a welcoming reception from the Foxboro faithful as well as his teammates including Tom Brady.

The New England Patriots had a tough time with the Indianapolis Colts who put up a valiant effort Thursday night. This was game was a tale of two halves because the Patriots were dominating the Colts in every phase of the game.

On offense, the New England Patriots moved the ball down the field with contributions coming from Edelman, James White, Rob Gronkowski and Sony Michel. The defense for New England also had their way with Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis offense by only giving up 3 points in the first half.

The second half was a different story for both the New England Patriots offense and defense. Despite scoring 14 points in the second half, the offense came across some unfortunate circumstances caused by two interceptions. One was tipped by wide receiver Chris Hogan into the hands of a Colts defender and the other was caught by Gronkowski and then knocked out of his grasp into the waiting arms of another Colts defender.

The defense also struggled throughout the second half by giving up a lot yards to a Colts offense that was missing their two top targets for Andrew Luck (T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle). The New England Patriots defense also gave a total of 21 points in the second half.

However, the New England Patriots still were able to pull out the 14-point victory despite an incredible effort from Indianapolis. Here are four takeaways from the win.
