Recent Patriots rumors are that both Rex Burkhead and Ja’Waun Bentley have been placed on injured reserve.

If the 1-2 start for the New England Patriots wasn’t bad enough, recent Patriots rumors are that Rex Burkhead and Ja’Whaun Bentley have both been placed on injured reserve.

Injuries have been a major issue for the Patriots so far this season, and their depth has been tested very early this season. One of the reasons why the team struggled against the Lions was likely due to the fact that they were without Eric Rowe, Patrick Chung, Trey Flowers.

According to Jim McBride, things are only getting worse, as the Patriots will be placing Burkhead and Bentley on injured reserve.

These are two key players for the Patriots and their absence will certainly be noticed. Burkhead has had a hard time staying healthy with New England, but he has been very productive when healthy.

Burkhead has been a true Swiss army knife for the Patriots, as he can run, catch, and play special teams. With him out, the Patriots will now be relying heavily on rookie running back Sony Michel. In the past two weeks, we have seen Michel’s role increase and that will likely only continue with Burkhead out.

On the defensive side of the ball, losing Bentley will not help a defense for the Patriots that has been struggling. The rookie linebacker has been one of the bright spots on the defense this season, and his absence will also hurt the team.

With both Burkhead and Bentley now out, it will once again result in the Patriots needing others to step up. Week 4 is a huge game against the Miami Dolphins, as the Patriots can’t afford to go 1-3 and allow the Dolphins to move to 4-0.

It will be interesting to see how the Patriots try a deal with the loss of two key players over the next few weeks. For a team that has been struggling, this is certainly not good news.
