As we head into Week 4 of the regular season, the New England Patriots need their new weapon, Josh Gordon, to be a factor.

Through three weeks, the New England Patriots have not gotten off to the start that they would have liked. After a nice victory at home against the Houston Texans, the Patriots have lost back-to-back games for the first time since 2015.

In the two losses, the Patriots have not looked good on offense. Coming into the season, many believed that after trading Brandin Cooks and losing Danny Amendola in free agency that the team simply didn’t have enough talent at wide receiver.

So far through three games, that is looking to be the case. While they are still without Julian Edelman due to his suspension, the passing offense has not been nearly as effective as we have seen in recent years.

In the loss to the Lions, Brady was held to just 133 passing yards. Against a mediocre defense, those are some shockingly low numbers for Brady. Prior to the game against the Lions, the Patriots did go out and get some help for their receiving corps.

The addition of Josh Gordon from the Cleveland Browns should provide the Patriots with what they need at wide receiver, assuming he can stay on the field. When healthy and in the right mindset, Gordon has the talent to be one of the top receivers in the league.

Gordon was unable to suit up against the Lions, but with a big game coming up against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, the Patriots will need him on the field. Teams are really focusing on taking Rob Gronkowski out of the game with double coverage, and the Patriots haven’t been able to make them pay. With Gordon on the field, opposing defenses will have to respect him and it should make things a lot easier for the passing offense.

With the Patriots currently having a 1-2 record and the Dolphins being 3-0, this has quickly become a big game in the AFC East. If New England wants to win this game, they will need Gordon to be a factor.
