The New England Patriots and Detroit Lions are both looking to bounce back in Week 3 after suffering losses in Week 2.

The New England Patriots got crushed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 on the road. New England will remain on the road, as they will travel to take on the Detroit Lions in Week 3.

Both teams come into the Week 3 matchup looking to get into the win column. The Patriots are 1-1 but have been shaky to start the season. Detroit, on the other hand, is desperate for a win as they have started off 0-2.

The Matt Patricia era has not gotten off to the start that the Lions had hoped for. In Week 1, they were blown out by the New York Jets, 48-17. They played better against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 but suffered another loss.

Desperate for a win, the Lions will be motivated to snap their losing streak. Also, you can be sure that Patricia will have them ready to go against his old team. If he cannot get the Lions going, his first season as head coach could effectively be over after three weeks. Teams beginning the season 0-3 put themselves in a huge hole for a playoff spot.

The Lions will be the first team to see the new-look Patriots in action. If you hadn’t heard, the Patriots have a new target for Tom Brady in wide receiver Josh Gordon. Gordon’s transgressions off the court have been well documented, but there is no doubting he is a talented player.

Gordon has gotten in some limited practices this week and should be active on Sunday night. Gordon gives the Patriots a new dynamic offensively given his size on the outside. With Rob Gronkowski drawing attention over the middle, Gordon could have an immediate impact as a field-stretcher.

Prediction

Both the Patriots and Lions are struggling on defense. As a result, this will probably be a high-scoring affair. New England struggled to slow down Blake Bortles, so struggles are expected against Matthew Stafford with Golden Tate, Marvin Jones Jr., and Kenny Golladay at his disposal.

Detroit’s defense hasn’t been great either, and New England can score with the best of them. The game will be closer than people think, but the Patriots will still come away with the victory, essentially putting a dagger in Matt Patricia’s first season as head coach before his first month is through.
