Recent New England Patriots rumors involve wide receiver Josh Gordon, whom the team is reportedly closing in on a trade for.

Recent New England Patriots rumors weighed in on the situation involving Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Josh Gordon. On Sunday, it was revealed that the Patriots were doing their due diligence in the situation and doing their research.

Whatever research they were doing must have checked out, as things have moved along quickly. If recent Patriots rumors are to be believed, the Patriots are about to make an already strong offensive even more explosive.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Patriots are closing in on a deal for Gordon. The deal is not official yet but is heading in that direction.

Rapoport revealed the information on his Twitter account.

If this trade comes to fruition, the Patriots issues are wide receiver could quickly be resolved. Gordon has had his issues off the field, playing in only 11 games since 2013, mostly because of suspensions. However, when he is on the field, he is a difference maker.

In 2013, Gordon led the NFL with 1,646 yards in only 14 games. During that season, Gordon was catching passes from Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden and Brian Hoyer. Imagine what he could do with Tom Brady under center throwing him passes?

Gordon would be the best wide receiver, talent wise, in New England since Randy Moss. Brady and Moss were a dominant connection, and if Gordon could stay on the field, he would be able to produce at a dominant level as well.

New England and Cleveland have worked previously this offseason, completing a number of trades. The Patriots acquired Danny Shelton and Jason McCourty in trades from the Browns this offseason. They completed a third trade with Cleveland during the 2018 NFL Draft, as well.

New England also recently took a chance on another wide receiver that was with the Browns in Corey Coleman.

If the Patriots acquire him and can keep him on the straight and narrow, they are getting quite a weapon offensively. When caught up to speed, Gordon would slot in on the perimeter for New England, giving them some much-needed size at 6’3″.
