Recent New England Patriots rumors involve Dez Bryant, who is telling people he will be joining the Patriots.

New England Patriots rumors have popped up a lot recently. The Patriots won their first game of the season, but they have already made a number of roster moves, all three coming on the offensive side of the ball.

Running back Jeremy Hill tore his ACL in the season opener, prompting a move to be made at running back. Kenjon Barner was signed to replace him, as Kenneth Farrow was also signed to the practice squad. With Rex Burkhead also in concussion protocol, Farrow and Barner could both be active on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars and play a role.

While the Hill injury necessitated a move, the Patriots decided to make moves at wide receiver as well. Riley McCarron and Chad Hansen were both released Monday. McCarron had a rough Week 1, dropping his only target and muffing a punt. Hansen was brought in after being waived by the New York Jets during roster cut downs.

New England wasted no time replacing them. Veteran Bennie Fowler was signed, along with Corey Coleman. Fowler can help right away on special teams, while Coleman could be a long-term play, much like Phillip Dorsett.

However, if recent Patriots rumors are to be believed, they may not be done overhauling their wide receiver spot. According to Gavin Dawson of 105.3 The FAN, Dez Bryant could be on his way to New England as well.

According to one of Dawson’s sources, Bryant has been telling people that he is probably going to be going to New England.

New England has a history of taking on wide receivers that haven’t necessarily worked out in previous stops. Some have worked well, some haven’t. Randy Moss comes to mind as a good pickup. Dorsett is a more recent one, and there are hopes that Coleman can be the next one.

For as many good outcomes they have, there are bad ones. Chad Johnson didn’t last long in New England, for example.

With Julian Edelman sidelined for three more games because of suspension, the Patriots could probably use a little more help. Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson and Chris Hogan are the only wide receivers left that play offensively. Fowler or Coleman could be pressed into duty right away.

Bryant is a big name, but what he can bring to the field is up for debate. He has struggled in recent seasons, which could partly be because of a decline in performance personally but also at the quarterback position.

Bryant could bring a toughness to the Patriots receiving group they are lacking at times as a player who can make receptions in traffic. New England doesn’t have the biggest receiving group, so adding the 6’2″ Bryant would make some sense.

If New England feels the need to overhaul their wide receiver group again, Bryant could make for a good addition. At this point in time, it would be a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for the Patriots.
