With the New England Patriots thin at wide receiver, Cordarrelle Patterson will have a career year.

The 2018 regular season is right around the corner for the New England Patriots with just one preseason game to go. So far in training camp and the preseason, one of the notable storylines for the Patriots has been at wide receiver.

This offseason, the Patriots suffered a few losses at wide receiver which left them a bit thin at the position. The losses of Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola mean that two of their top producers from last season are gone.

In addition to those two losses, the Patriots will also be without Julian Edelman for the first four games of the season because of a suspension. With Edelman out to start the season, a lot of pressure will fall on Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan. However, the Patriots will need other weapons to step up.

With Eric Decker recently retiring after failing to produce for New England, it looks like Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson are going to be key players at wide receiver for the team this season.

Patterson was acquired in the offseason to bolster the special teams, but he might now find himself with a big opportunity to break out as a wide receiver. As a former first-round pick, Patterson has never totaled more than 500 receiving yards in a season. However, he will have a chance to have a career year with New England.

As we have seen in the preseason, Patterson has been playing quite well at wide receiver for the Patriots. Since he is one of the most explosive returners in the NFL, getting Patterson the ball in space can result in good things.

The Patriots offense is certainly capable of doing that, as Josh McDaniels is a very good offensive coordinator that will put him in positions to succeed. With 469 receiving yards being his career-high coming into this season, Patterson will be able to exceed that amount with the Patriots.
