Will the New England Patriots be able to survive on the offensive line after losing Isaiah Wynn for the season?

The New England Patriots might have looked very good in their win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason, but they suffered a notable loss. In the win, the Patriots saw their first-round pick, Isaiah Wynn, go down with a torn Achilles.

This is obviously very sad news for Wynn, as nobody wants to suffer any sort of injury like this, especially in the preseason.

The Patriots selected Wynn with the 23rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia. Wynn was drafted after the team lost Nate Solder in free agency, as they hoped Wynn could be an option at left tackle.

While Wynn was drafted to be a possible replacement for Solder, it was instead Trent Brown who stepped up at left tackle. The Patriots also acquired Brown during the NFL Draft in a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Due to Brown basically taking the job at left tackle, it left Wynn without a real spot to play. Since Marcus Cannon has been out in the preseason, Wynn was starting at right tackle. However, Cannon is expected back for the start of the regular season, and certainly would be given his starting job back.

One of the nice things about Wynn was his versatility, as he also played on the inside at college. For the Patriots, they were returning all four of their other starting offensive linemen from last season besides Solder, and taking one of the jobs on the inside would have been a tall task.

Even though losing a first round pick for the season is never a good thing, the Patriots should be alright without Wynn as of now. With Brown and Cannon as the expected starters at the tackles, and LaAdrian Waddle as their backup swingman, they have a nice trio there.

While injuries can also occur and make the loss of Wynn noticed more during the season, the Patriots should be alright for now without him. Hopefully, Wynn has a quick and successful recovery from this injury and is back on the field for the Patriots in 2019.
