New England Patriots: 3 Players who stood out in win over Eagles
By Nick Ziegler
– James White
Due to injuries to both Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead this preseason, it was James White who got a chance to get some extra reps for the Patriots in the first half. White is coming off of a bit of a down year for his standards, but he certainly has a knack for showing up in big situations. While this wasn’t a big game, White performed very well.
White is known for his abilities as a pass-catcher, but he ran the ball well for the Patriots on Thursday. Against the Eagles, White totaled 31 rushing yards on just four carries. White is never going to be a bell cow in the backfield for New England, but good gains when he does carry the football are certainly a welcomed sight.
In the passing game, White really shined for New England on Thursday, as he totaled six receptions, 61 receiving yards, and one touchdown. With injuries to both Burkhead and Michel, having White as the third option is certainly a good one for the Patriots. Since the team is pretty banged up, their depth is certainly being tested. At the running back position, they definitely have a lot of talent.
