Patriots Rumors: Tom Brady’s back injury considered minor
Recent New England Patriots rumors involve quarterback Tom Brady, who is suffering from a back injury that is considered minor.
New England Patriots rumors are going to picking up again as the preseason has gotten underway. New England defeated the Washington Redskins 26-17 in their preseason opener. However, they were without some regulars.
Quarterback Tom Brady was the most recognizable absence from the preseason opener. Brady dressed for the game but did not play. Brady did not play because of a back injury, which will make some people nervous.
At 41-years old, any injury concerns, especially with a back, will garner some attention. However, this time around, it sounds as if the Patriots were just showing extreme caution for a meaningless game.
Jim McBride of The Boston Globe shared the news of Brady’s back injury. He also noted that Brady’s workload in practice was lighter this week.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Brady’s back injury is considered minor, which is excellent news for the Patriots.
While the injury was regarded as the reason for Brady not playing, there was no guarantee he would have been on the field had he been 100 percent healthy, anyway. As Zack Cox of NESN shared, Brady has sat out three of the previous four preseason openers.

With Brady sidelined, backup quarterback Brian Hoyer played almost the whole game. Hoyer played deep into the fourth quarter before giving way to Danny Etling, the Patriots seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Patriots will take the field again on August 16th in a Super Bowl 52 rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles. How much, if at all, Brady will play in that game is still undecided.
The game to keep an eye on is August 24th when New England travels to take on the Carolina Panthers. The third preseason game is usually when the starters and regulars will get the most playing time as a dress rehearsal for the regular season.
If Brady is still sitting out by that time, the concern will truly begin setting in. Until then, there is nothing to worry about as there is no reason to push established veterans in exhibition games.
