Patriots Rumors: Injury to Marcus Cannon not expected to be serious
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Patriots rumors are that the injury suffered by right tackle Marcus Cannon is not expected to have him miss much time.
Even though training camp as just started for the New England Patriots, there have been plenty of injuries and Patriots rumors the past few days. At wide receiver, the Patriots have been very banged up this training camp, as Jordan Matthews was recently released after suffering a significant hamstring injury.
On Wednesday, the Patriots had another couple of injury scares, as both Marcus Cannon and Sony Michel left the field early. While there hasn’t been an update on Michel, the news about Cannon’s injury appears to be good, as it’s not thought to be significant according to Mike Reiss.
This is certainly good news for the Patriots, as Cannon is expected to be a rock for them at right tackle. Due to the departure of Nate Solder, left tackle is a bit of a question mark still for the Patriots, and they certainly don’t need anything happening to their tackle on the other side.
Last season, Cannon was only able to play in seven games before his season was cut short due to an ankle injury. While Cannon didn’t get a chance to play for most of the season, he was the 22nd ranked tackle by Pro Football Focus with a 75.3 grade.
The strong start to his 2017 was following a great 2016 season. One of the reasons for the Patriots winning the Super Bowl that season was the huge improvement from Cannon. After struggling to find his way in the NFL, Cannon had one of the best seasons in the league at right tackle in 2016.
Hopefully, Cannon will be back out on the practice field soon, as he will be a very important player for the Patriots this coming season. For Michel, we will have to wait and see what his injury status is. With the first preseason game right around the corner for the Patriots, they will hopefully get a bit healthier prior to that game.
