Recent Patriots rumors are not good for wide receiver Jordan Matthews, as he reportedly is dealing with a significant hamstring injury.

As training camp rolls on for the New England Patriots, recent Patriots rumors are worrisome for wide receiver Jordan Matthews. After an offseason of change at wide receiver, Matthews was one of the players brought in to try and replace the production of Danny Amendola and Brandin Cooks.

Matthews was a former second-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014 and started his career off very strong for the Eagles. In his rookie season, Matthews totaled 67 receptions, 872 receiving yards, and eight receiving touchdowns.

The following season, Matthews once again performed well, as he just missed 1,000 yards receiving, but once again caught eight touchdowns. However, in 2016, Matthews’ production dropped a bit, as he totaled 804 receiving yards and just three receiving touchdowns in what ended up being his final season in Philadelphia.

Last season, Matthews was never able to get rolling with the Buffalo Bills. While the offense last season didn’t feature a lot of passing, Matthews was also hurt for most of the year and had the worst season of his career.

Coming to New England, things looked up for Matthews, coming from Buffalo’s run-first offense. However, recent reports are that the Patriots have released Matthews.

With a significant hamstring injury, Matthews might have a hard time finding a team with training camp already starting. If he is unable to work out for teams, most likely won’t take a chance on him.

Now that Matthews has been released, it could clear the way for the Patriots to sign Eric Decker. On Tuesday, Decker reportedly worked out for New England, and this could be the next move coming for New England. Hopefully for Matthews, his hamstring is able to heal quickly so he can try and find a new home. However, with a need for healthy wide receivers, the Patriots elected that holding on to him was not worth it at this time.
