New England Patriots: Tom Brady is happy to have Josh McDaniels back
By Nick Ziegler
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently commented on him being very happy to have Josh McDaniels back
After a few great seasons as the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, it looked like Josh McDaniels was going to be heading elsewhere this offseason. After the Super Bowl, McDaniels agreed to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.
However, McDaniels shockingly backed out of the deal to become the head coach of the Colts, as the Patriots were able to retain him. After years being a great offensive coordinator, McDaniels certainly seemed ready to take over as the head coach of the Colts.
While his first stint as the head coach of the Broncos didn’t go so well, McDaniels certainly appeared to have learned from his mistakes there. Recently, Tom Brady talked about McDaniels and that he was very happy to have him back as the offensive coordinator. Here’s what Brady said via Zack Cox of NESN.com.
"“I always talk to him about everything, and like I said, he’s a great friend to me,” Brady said. “I love him. I love his family. We’re very close. When you work together with someone for that long, you have a great rapport and relationship. I’m just happy he’s on our team, I’m happy he’s coaching me, and I want to go out there and do well by him.”"
Since returning to New England, the Patriots have been a top-5 scoring offense every season with McDaniels as the offensive coordinator. While having Brady as his quarterback certainly helps, McDaniels has done a very good job calling the plays.
With McDaniels coming back, the Patriots will luckily not have to go through the changes that they would have if he left. For Brady, changing offensive coordinators while being over 40-years-old would not have been ideal.
Furthermore, with McDaniels turning down the Colts job, it would appear like he is planning on hanging around in New England for the foreseeable future. There is a good chance that McDaniels might want to try and wait to become the eventual successor for Bill Belichick. However, a great coaching opportunity could always convince him to leave. But for now, McDaniels will still be calling the shots for the Patriots offense.
