New England Patriots: Kenny Britt expected back soon despite sitting out
By Nick Ziegler
During practice for the New England Patriots on Saturday, wide receiver Kenny Britt was noticeably absent.
With training camp underway for the New England Patriots, all eyes have been on the AFC Champions, who are trying to get back to the Super Bowl this season. There are a lot of new faces at training camp for New England and there are some interesting positions battles to keep an eye on.
Due to injuries, there are a few players on the Patriots that have started training camp on the physically unable to perform list. One of those players is wide receiver Kenny Britt. Despite practicing on the side the previous two days, Britt sat out on Saturday as part of a prepared day off according to NESN.com.
Britt has been dealing with a hamstring injury, and while it isn’t considered to be serious, hamstrings are always tricky.
While most of the receiving core for the Patriots is new, Britt was on the team last year. After a really good season with the Rams in 2016, Britt never got rolling with the Cleveland Browns last season. Britt totaled just 18 receptions and 236 receiving yards in nine games with the Browns, which was well down from the 1000-yard season he had prior.
Britt ended up joining the Patriots in the second half of the season, but wasn’t much of a factor. However, getting to know the system and having a full offseason with New England, Britt could be a player to watch for New England.
With the loss of Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola, there are a lot of receptions to go around for wide receivers. While Julian Edelman will get a good chunk of those when he returns, Britt could work himself into a starter on the outside with Chris Hogan.
Furthermore, with the hamstring not expected to be serious, Britt will hopefully be back soon for the Patriots. If he is able to find his form from 2016, Britt could be a very important part of the team this season.
