Recent New England Patriots rumors involve offensive lineman Trent Brown, who is considered the favorite for left tackle duties right now.

With training camp getting underway, New England Patriots rumors are picking back up. There will be a lot of discussions as the team cuts down their roster in the coming weeks. Position battles will also be a topic of discussion. One position battle to keep an eye on is at left tackle.

The Patriots left tackle spot along their offensive line will be worth watching. Long-time left tackle, Nate Solder, left New England this offseason. He signed a record-breaking deal with the New York Giants, leaving the Patriots with a big hole along their offensive line.

New England has a few options they are considering for the position. A first-round pick was used on Georgia offensive lineman, Isaiah Wynn. LaAdrian Waddle was retained in free agency and Cole Croston was held onto from last season.

However, right now, it looks like Trent Brown is the leader in the clubhouse for the starting left tackle spot.

Brown was acquired from the San Francisco 49ers during the 2018 NFL Draft. The Patriots traded the No. 95 overall pick in the draft to San Francisco for Brown and the No. 143 overall pick. Right now, it looks like he will have the first shot at landing the starting left tackle spot.

According to Zack Cox of NESN, Brown was with the first team when the Patriots took the field for practice Thursday. Brown lined up with Joe Thuney at left guard, David Andrews at center, Shaq Mason at right guard and Marcus Cannon at right tackle.

At this point in time, it makes sense that Brown is the favorite. Wynn was looked at as a guard heading into the draft. Brown, on the other hand, is a monster of a man, standing 6’8″ and 380 pounds. However, he has not played much left tackle, as he was a right tackle with the 49ers.
