Bleacher Report recently named some of the overlooked moves of the offseason. For the New England Patriots, trading for Cordarrelle Patterson was one.

After falling short against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, the New England Patriots went through a lot of changes this offseason. As one of the top teams in the league, the Patriots frequently see players leave in free agency for more money after playing well for New England.

This offseason, the Patriots saw a lot of changes on the offensive side of the ball. At wide receiver, the Patriots traded Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams and also lost Danny Amendola in free agency.

As two of the top weapons on the team last year, losing both Cooks and Amendola is certainly a big blow for the Patriots. However, they did add some depth at wide receiver this offseason, and will be getting Julian Edelman back after he serves his suspension.

One of the weapons that the Patriots added was Cordarrelle Patterson. The Patriots acquired Patterson from Raiders this offseason, as he will be providing them with some depth at wide receiver and on special teams.

Recently, Bleacher Report named the Patriots acquiring Patterson as one of the overlooked moves of the offseason.

As a two-time Pro Bowl player, the Patriots are getting one of the best returners in the league. While new rule changes have hurt Patterson’s ability to have an impact a bit, teams are certainly well aware of what he can do.

Even though Patterson hasn’t done a ton as a wide receiver, the Patriots seem to like what he will be able to bring for them on the offensive side of the ball. Patterson’s career-high in receiving yards came in his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings, but he has yet to eclipse the 500-yard receiving mark.

There is a good chance that Patterson will be able to get a chance to impress as a wide receiver this season. Depending on how quickly he is able to pick up the playbook, there will certainly be opportunities early on when Edelman is out. Even if Patterson doesn’t light it up as a wide receiver, he is a Pro Bowl talent on special teams, which is certainly very valuable.
