The New England Patriots have signed the first of their two first-round picks, as they have reached an agreement with Isaiah Wynn.

With a need to strengthen their offensive line this offseason after the loss of Nate Solder, the New England Patriots addressed it rather quickly in the NFL Draft. With their first pick, the Patriots drafted Georgia guard/tackle Isaiah Wynn.

Even though Wynn doesn’t have the prototypical size of a tackle, he was able to play the position very well in college. As we get ready for training camp and the preseason, Wynn will likely be competing for the starting job at left tackle. However, Wynn could also possibly be moved inside if he struggles at left tackle, or is beaten for the job. Having that type of versatility will surely help him, but the Patriots envision him as a tackle as of now.

Just recently, Wynn and the Patriots have reportedly agreed to his rookie contract, which will be for four years with a fifth-year option.

Due to the changes in the collective bargaining agreement, most of these rookie deals are done rather quickly, as we don’t see rookies making a ton of money before playing a snap in the NFL. However, it is certainly good that the two sides got this done.

For Wynn, he might have a lot of responsibilities as a rookie. Being a left tackle is one of the most important positions in the NFL, and protecting the blindside of Tom Brady is crucial. When Brady is properly protected, he is at his best. However, when Brady gets hit and knocked around we have seen the Patriots struggle.

With Wynn signing, the Patriots are now just waiting on signing Sony Michel, who is the only rookie that hasn’t signed. This will likely come soon since Wynn and the Patriots reached an agreement.
