New England Patriots: Finding the flaws in the latest ESPN report

If the New England Patriots are looking to add some players for the offseason on offense, these are a few names they could consider.

Now that the 2018 NFL Draft is over, there are still quite a few unsigned free agents, which could add some depth or at the very least be added to the New England Patriots roster as a camp body.

MusketFire will look into those available free agents who could at least compete for a roster spot and add something to the team during camp. Of course, the roster already has 92 players on it so most of these would be highly unlikely but it’s always fun to speculate.

Quarterback

Matt Moore

The former Dolphin has a bit of tread on his tires and will be 34-years old when the regular season begins. If he were to be brought in, it would be to compete with Brian Hoyer in the veteran backup role.

It would also be fair to assume Danny Etling would not be ready to compete for the backup role, (which is highly likely). Moore is a capable player but is a free agent for a reason. He is the type of player that will be signed mid-season as a second or third option if a starter goes down.

The other options were Jay Cutler, Derek Anderson, TJ Yates, Mark Sanchez or Ryan Mallett.

Running Back

Orleans Darkwa

Darkwa isn’t the biggest household name available but he is one of the few coming off his best season. In 2017, Darkwa had a 4.4 yards per carry average and 751 rushing yards. He is also a dual threat of sorts with 19 catches for 116 yards.

It’s that kind of versatility that would make him the versatile back that the Patriots covet. At 26, he is still quite young for a running back and before this season he only had 75 carries in his first four seasons.

The other options were Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles, DeMarco Murray, Alfred Morris, or Shane Vereen.
