Indianapolis Colts No. 6: Notre Dame OG, Quenton Nelson

Earlier in the offseason, the Indianapolis Colts made a blockbuster deal with the New York Jets to allow the Jets to move into the Top 3. Since the Colts still have Andrew Luck at quarterback, the Colts didn’t have a need for a quarterback, and making a trade down to acquire more assets was a smart decision.

While there have to be some concerns about the health of Luck, who missed the entire 2017, they believe that he will be ready for 2018. With the sixth overall pick, the Colts made an investment in Luck at quarterback, as they selected guard Quenton Nelson from Notre Dame.

Even though Luck is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league, he has taken a beaten early in his career. The Colts have worked on adding talent to the offensive line in recent years, and Nelson is a big addition.

As by far the best guard in the draft, Nelson has the potential to be a Pro Bowl guard very quickly in his career. Even though guards aren’t generally taken this early, he fills a need for the Colts and could be a staple of their offensive line for the next decade. Overall, this was a solid selection by the Colts.
