Minnesota Vikings No. 30: UCF CB, Mike Hughes

Even though the Minnesota Vikings had one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, that didn’t stop them from adding to the unit. After reaching the playoffs last season, expectations are going to be very high in Minnesota now with the addition of Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Since the offense has some pretty good weapons for Cousins already, the Vikings were able to address a need on the defensive side of the ball by drafting cornerback Mike Hughes from UCF.

Hughes was one of the top cornerbacks in the draft this season, but some off the field issues might have hurt his draft stock a bit. Also, Hughes is a bit small, even for a cornerback, which can be concerning at the next level. However, at 30, this is a solid pick by the Vikings, as they got a talented player that can fill a need.

As of now, the Vikings are a bit thin at the cornerback position and Hughes will help give them some insurance at the position after the great Xavier Rhodes. Hughes had a knack for making plays at UCF and the Vikings will hope that he can do that for them next season as they try to make a push toward the Super Bowl.
