Pittsburgh Steelers No. 28: Virginia Tech S, Terrelle Edmunds

One of the surprises late in the first round was the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting safety Terrell Edmunds. Not too many people could have expected Edmunds to be a first-round pick along with his brother, but he was certainly a late riser in the draft process and the Steelers liked what they saw. Seeing the Edmunds brothers taken in the first round was neat, but this might have been a reach.

With Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and Le’Veon Bell, the offense of the Steelers is still one of the best in the league, and it is their defense that has been needing to improve. In recent years, the unit is getting better, and they will hope that Edmunds can be one of the final pieces. However, this really does seem like a reach for the Steelers, as there were many other talented players in the secondary still available.

Seeing a player like Mike Hughes from UCF being selected after Edmunds was very surprising, as Edmunds easily could have been selected on Day 2. Asking Edmunds to start right away might be a bit of a reach for the Steelers like this pick was, as he has a lot of work to do as a safety still. For a first-round pick, the Steelers could have done better here.
