With the 23rd overall pick, the New England Patriots selected offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn. What was the reaction on twitter to this pick?
The New England Patriots ended up staying put with their first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, as they selected Isaiah Wynn from Georgia. New England was able to acquire the 23rd overall pick in a trade earlier in the offseason with the Los Angeles Rams.
In the trade that sent Brandin Cooks to the Rams, the Patriots were able to get the 23rd overall pick back in return. Since Cooks is entering the final year of his contract, getting a first-round pick back for him was certainly good value.
With the 23rd overall pick, the Patriots decided to address the offensive line, as they selected Isaiah Wynn from Georgia. Wynn was a great player in college and provides the Patriots with a lot of versatility on their offensive line.
In college, Wynn played at both tackle and guard. For the Patriots, they appear to be viewing him as a tackle, which fills a need. Since the left tackle position is a bit of a question mark with Nate Solder leaving in free agency, the Patriots now have three players that can compete for the starting spot.
Even though an offensive lineman isn’t a sexy pick, here is what the reaction on Twitter was to this selection by the Patriots.
One last thing on the top college OTs… I trust @BigDuke50 more than anyone with evaluations and he loves Isaiah Wynn, even at OT with his 6’3 height and shorter arms. He’s told me multiple times Wynn is ready to play now.

Isaiah Wynn played left tackle at Georgia. Could project as a guard in the NFL. 6-3, 313. Athletic.

With the 23rd pick, the Patriots select ..... Georgia OL Isaiah Wynn. He's 6-2, 313 pounds, usually the size for a guard. But started 15 games at left tackle in 2018, so maybe he's Nate Solder's replacement

The Patriots announced 6-2 OL Isaiah Wynn as a tackle. His arms are as long as Antonio Garcia's. He was nasty at LT at Georgia.

Like my man @WTPLane said in his article about Isaiah Wynn “Not a sexy pick but can come in right away and start Day 1”. Wynn was one of the best linemen at Senior Bowl and has potential all pro talent as a LT.

Isaiah Wynn is a fantastic value at 23

Was really impressed w/ Isaiah Wynn @iwynn77 on film. Super athletic & great feet, rarely out of position & excellent recovery. Great power/explosion out of stance, fast twitch guy. Pass set reminded me of Tyron Smith. Will be solid Pro good pick for Pats #NFLDraft18

Next: Final Seven-Round Mock Draft
With Lamar Jackson on the board still, the Patriots surely could have gone in that direction with this pick. However, Wynn gives them a player that can compete right away for the left tackle job in the summer. If he is beat out at tackle, he could then slide inside to guard and still provide the Patriots with a starting offensive lineman. Overall, this was a solid start for the Patriots’ draft class.
