TBB No. 7 Overall Pick: Ohio State DB, Denzel Ward

One of the teams that many believed would be taking a step forward last season was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Largely due to injuries, the Buccaneers were unable to accomplish what they wanted to last season. As a team that hoped to be in the playoffs, having a Top-10 pick isn’t something that they expected at the beginning of the season.

However, the disappointing season will allow them to get another young impact player. While the Buccaneers have a lot of young talent on the offensive side of the ball, the seventh pick in the draft will be used on Denzel Ward from Ohio State to improve the team on the defensive side of the ball.

The decision to address the secondary is a rather easy one to make, as the Buccaneers allowed the most passing yards in the NFL last season. As arguably the best defensive back in the draft, Ward will be able to come in and help a secondary that needs it.

Being able to stop the pass is one of the most important things in the NFL now, as nearly every team in the league is looking to throw the ball now. While Ward isn’t great against the run, he should be able to cover at a high level right away.
