CLE No. 4 Overall Pick: Penn State RB, Saquon Barkley

The Cleveland Browns landed their quarterback of the future with the first overall pick, selecting USC QB, Sam Darnold. With their second selection in the first round, the Browns give him another weapon to work with, selecting Penn State running back, Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is the highest rated player in this year’s draft class by multiple outlets, and for good reason. He dominated at Penn State, taking home Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017.

Barkley is a true dual threat out of the backfield. He ran for over 1,000 yards all three seasons at Penn State and saw his receiving statistics improve every season. Last season, he caught 54 passes for 632 yards. All in all, Barkley finished his collegiate career with 5,038 yards from scrimmage on 773 plays with 51 total touchdowns. If that isn’t impressive enough, he can also help on special teams in the return game.

Cleveland’s offense will have undergone a full overhaul this offseason, and Barkley would represent the final piece to those changes. Tyrod Taylor is taking over at quarterback with Jarvis Landry being added at wide receiver. With Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, Duke Johnson Jr. and David Njoku already in place, the Browns’ offense is really beginning to take shape. This unit has a ton of talent all over the field.
