MIN No. 30 Overall Pick: UTEP OG, Will Hernandez

The Vikings made a huge investment in quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason. He will replace Case Keenum under center for the Vikings. Cousins received a monster deal, agreeing to a fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million deal.

By handing out that kind of money, the Vikings have to ensure that Cousins remains upright to produce. Because of that, we have the Vikings addressing their needs along the offensive line by selecting UTEP offensive guard, Will Hernandez.

Hernandez’s production and experience is excellent. He started 49 games at UTEP, so he should be able to step right into the lineup from Day 1. Minnesota, right now, could use upgrades along their whole offensive line. Riley Reiff, Nick Easton, and Pat Elflein all received poor marks from Pro Football Focus last season. Joe Berger received an average grade, while Mike Remmers received below average grades.

Hernandez can get the job done in different schemes given his athleticism and driving power as a blocker. He performs as a run blocker and in pass protection. Hernandez projects as a starter right away, which the Vikings need.

The Vikings offense has the potential to be one of the best in the league. Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are a great duo at wide receiver. Kyle Rudolph is a good tight end. Dalvin Cook was looking good at running back before getting injured his rookie season. Improving the offensive line is the last step to helping this offseason really take off.
