NYJ No. 3 Overall Pick: Wyoming QB, Josh Allen

With a need for a quarterback, the New York Jets felt it was necessary to move up in the NFL Draft to get one. Earlier in the offseason, the Jets made a blockbuster deal with the Indianapolis Colts in order to acquire the third overall pick.

While the price was steep to move up, the Jets have needed a quarterback for a long time, and having the third overall pick will give them an opportunity to do so. Since the Giants ended up passing on a quarterback, the Jets will have an extra one to choose from.

Even though he didn’t play at a big school, Josh Allen from Wyoming might have the biggest upside of any quarterback in the draft. With a rocket for an arm, Allen would be a good fit for the Jets, as throwing in the windy and cold Meadowlands shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the hard-thrower.

While Allen has a lot of upside, the Jets will have to do a better job developing him than they have with quarterbacks like Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, and Christian Hackenberg to name a few recent failures at the position. The Jets badly need a franchise quarterback, and with some work, Allen could be that for them.
