ATL No. 26 Overall Pick: Florida DT, Taven Byran

The Atlanta Falcons have a few needs throughout their roster. Shoring up the skill position spots, such as wide receiver and tight end, are on their to-do list in the NFL Draft. However, with their first-round pick, No. 26 overall, the Falcons will select Florida defensive tackle, Taven Bryan.

Bryan will help the Falcons out immediately. Last season’s defensive tackle, Dontari Poe, left in free agency and signed with the Carolina Panthers. Bryan would provide the Falcons with a replacement that can step into the lineup right away.

Bryan had a strong season in 2017. From the defensive tackle spot, he registered 37 total tackles with six tackles for loss and four sacks. He has received some comparisons to Fletcher Cox of the Philadelphia Eagles, which is some high praise to receive.

Bryan has some developing to do, but the elite first step quickness and above average short-area explosiveness are good building blocks to have. There is a lot to like here. Bryan could become a difference maker in the middle if he is brought along and developed well.
